Environmentally conscious, renewable and “green”, ethyl lactate is a new preferred choice for various common pharmaceutical uses
Ethyl lactate is achieved by the esterification of lactic acid and ethanol. This process involves the fermentation of corn starch and is therefore a very environmentally responsible solution. Prepared from renewable and natural resources, the solvent can be deemed a better alternative to other organic compounds because of its easily purified nature and limited ecological impact. It is currently used in flavourings, inks and as a degreaser. It is also effective in pharmaceuticals for pill coatings, taste masking and improving the solubility of other agents.
