Food Waste - the main society challenge


Food waste has a bigger impact on pollution than we might perceive. In fact, it’s not only about greenhouse gas emissions.  But how big is this problem and why do we need to put our focus into remediating it?

25% of the world’s fresh water supply is used to grow food that is never eaten. Just imagine that some countries have a deficit of potable water, while others waste it in big quantities for something that is going to be thrown away. If to analyze deeper, throwing away one burger wastes the same amount of water as a 90-minute shower, according to Water Footprint. That happens not only because of the wasted food that causes losses, but also because of the waste that happens while the food is manufactured.
